(Inter)National Service and Leadership.
I serve the national community of educational research more broadly, and the field of social studies teacher education more specifically, in the following ways.
1
Spencer Educational Foundation
I was invited to serve as a reviewer for three rounds of small research grant proposals for the Spencer Educational Foundation in 2022. Each round requires the review of about 20 proposals for up to $50,000 each.
2
Elementary Social Studies Education Summit (ESSES)
As co-founder of the Elementary Social Studies Education Summit, I work to plan and organize the annual conference, review proposals, and provide an inclusive space for all presenters and attendees. Our inaugural Summit was in 2019, and after a break in 2020, we successfully planned and held virtual Summits in 2021 and 2022, and we are busy planning for 2023. Here's the website we created for ESSES 2022.

North Carolina Professors of Social Studies Education
The North Carolina Professors of Social Studies Education meets each year at the state conference in Greensboro, North Carolina. I served as the Chair-elect from 2019-2020, and the Chair of the NCPSSE from 2020-2021.
4
National Council for the Social Studies
I served as Chair and Co-Chair of the Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year Committee from 2015-2018. Each year I reviewed applications for the award and presented the Teacher of the Year with this prestigious award at the President's Breakfast during the NCSS national conference.
